Contemporary Art
- Modern art
Contemporary art can be defined as art produced at this
present point in time or art produced since World War II.
The definition of the word contemporary support the
first view, but museums of contemporary art

documenta 12, 2007 documenta is one of the
world‘s most important art exhibitions of contemporary art
which takes place every five years in Kassel, Germany. It
was founded by artist, teacher and curator Arnold Bode in
1955 as part of the Federal Horticultural Show. This first
documenta was a success as it featured most of the artists
which are generally considered to have had a significant
influence on modern art. The recent documentas feature art
from all continents.
"documenta 12 has three leitmotifs
and they take the form of questions. After all, we create
an exhibition in order to find something out. Here and there,
these motifs may correspond, overlap, or disintegrate –
like a musical score. Is modernity our antiquity?
What is bare life? What is to be done?"
